Pour the G11334 Oval Box mold with Regal Snow White
Porcelain.
Fire to cone 018-019.
Soak the soft bisque in water for a few minutes. Trim
off all imperfections and seam lines with a cleanup tool. Sand surface with a
fine grit scrubber until the surface is smooth with no sign of the seam lines.
If you have any pin holes, these must be filled with a paste made with the
cleanup dust and water.
Paint any area of the soft bisque that touches another
surface, such as the inside of the box top, with 1 coat of Hi-Fire Separator.
Fire to cone 6 with box lid in place.
Polish matured bisque again with a fine scrubber until
it has a satiny feel all over.
Transfer pattern to the porcelain bisque using graphite
paper or Saral. The pattern shown is an adaptation of a pattern found in Dover
Press Art Nouveau by Ed Siebert, jr. Many great patterns can be found in this
book.
Fill the cup on your gold pen with a drop of Unique
Colors Bright Gold and go over all the lines on the pattern. Clean the pen with
acetone, gold cleaner or lacquer thinner.
Mix the Glass color well, add water if necessary to
bring it to the consistency of cream. "Puddle" the Glass Color inside
each gold line. Color should be applied heavily enough to allow it to flow
together, healing all brush marks, but not heavily enough to cause the color to
flow over the gold outline. Leaves and stems are Leaf Green shaded with Apple
Green. The flowers are Coral. The inner border lines are Tulip Yellow shaded
into Golden Orange. The outer border lines are Turquoise shaded into Jade and
then shaded into Blue Green.
Shading on the different colors adds so much to the
beauty of the completed piece. To shade, fill in with the main color, leaving
blank places where you wish to have darker or lighter shading, add the shading
color and "squiggle" the two colors together.
When all of the design is filled in, fire the piece to
cone 016.
After firing, you may wish to go over all gold lines if
you have uneven places in the outlining. Cover all lines evenly with the fired
gold, you can also add gold accents over the fired Glass Colors if you wish. Use
a series 600 #0 to apply the gold. This brush is especially made to be used in
gold or in solvent based colors.
Fire the piece to cone 019.
