Blackberries and Wild Rose

Sponge on three good coats of the Satellite T121 Volcanic Ash to greenware or soft bisque. Apply the Glaze using a sponge brush for even coverage. Allow an hour between coats drying time and wait overnight before firing to cone 05.
Appli-Kate must be applied to FIRED textural glaze or over an unfired matte glaze.

Glaze inside of vase by thinning black gloss with about 1 part water and 3 parts glaze. Pour inside, roll vase till inside is covered, then pour out the excess. Remove any drips with a damp sponge and even up the area where the two glazes join using a brush. Trace on the pattern using White Sarel Transfer Paper.

When doing a design with Appli-Kate, all elements of the design that are underneath are completed first. In this case, the stems are trailed in first, next will be the leaves. When doing a leaf or flower, apply one petal and let dry before doing an adjoining petal or leaf. If wet is applied next to wet, some of the separation will be lost. Skip to another flower or group of leaves while the first is drying.

Appli-Kate will be solid in the jar and occasionally may even be dry. Cut and stir with the Appli-Kate tool, add a few drops of water and stir all the way to the bottom of the jar. Product will be smooth and drip slowly off the tool when proper consistency is reached.

Appli-Kate is applied with a very small square shader or the Appli-Kate Brush. Use the brush like a scoop, picking up small or large portions, depending on size or area to be covered. Drop glaze from brush and immediately push or pull toward edge of leaf or petal using the brush to shape turnbacks and etc. before product dries. Do not brush, pat to smooth out, as Appli-Kate fires exactly as it is applied. If a leaf or petal does not shape well, it can be scraped off and re-applied.

After all leaves have been applied, fill in the berries using #16 Purple. Next you will add the flower petals with the #10 Pink. Skip around over the design so that each petal has time to dry before apply the adjoining petal. if wet is applied nest to wet, some of the separation will be lost. When the petals are finished, add centers using the #9 Yellow.

When all parts of the design have been filled in with the special build-up glaze, you will be ready to shade your design with Single-Strokes. Mix each color as needed on a tile with enough water to make it a thin cream consistency. Use the #6 square shader and TU655 Foliage Green to shade all leaves following shading instructions on the pattern. Add veins using a fine brush and The Foliage. Mix Tu652 Deep Rose Single-Stroke, and use the #8 square shader for shading the flower petals. Tu657 Red Brown and the 10/0 brush is used for shading the flower centers. Add the stamens using the brown. Next you will shade the berries using TU665 Deep Blue translucent with a small amount of black added to deepen the blue.

Fire the vase to cone 05.

All glazes and translucent underglazes, pattern and brushes are from Satellite Textural Glazes.
